1/2 medium yellow onion, diced

1 small jalapeño, minced (optional)

2 garlic cloves, minced

1/2 tsp smoked paprika

3/4 tsp cumin

1/2 tsp oregano

1/4 tsp cayenne (optional)

3/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

2 tbsp tomato sauce

1 (14 oz) can fire-roasted diced tomatoes

3/4 cup beef broth

3 tbsp brewed black coffee

1/4 oz dark chocolate (optional)

Instructions

Melt butter in a medium pot over medium heat. Add onion and jalapeño. Cook until soft (5–6 minutes).

Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds.

Add ground chuck and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.

Stir in chili powder, paprika, cumin, oregano, cayenne, salt, and pepper. Let the spices toast for 30 seconds.

Stir in tomato sauce, tomatoes, broth, coffee, and optional chocolate.

Bring to a simmer. Cook uncovered for 30–40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
