Baked Layered Beef Taco Pie with Sour Cream, Salsa & Guacamole

I’ve always liked meals built from real ingredients — food you can make on a weeknight that still feels satisfying. This baked, layered beef taco pie fits that idea. It’s simple to put together, uses local grassfed beef, and can feed a family without a lot of effort.

A Local Meal

We love Mexican-inspired meals that are both authentic and easy to make at home. This one has become a regular on our table. The beef comes from cattle raised naturally on pasture on our farm here in Greenfield. It’s the same grassfed beef we deliver to families across Central Indiana.

The idea is simple. Start with good local meat and use it in meals that fit real life. Local food doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. A pound of grassfed ground beef can feed a family when it’s treated as real food — not a processed product.

The Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Tyner Pond Farm grassfed ground beef

  • 1 small onion, chopped

  • 1 red bell pepper, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tbsp taco seasoning (or mix your own: chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt)

  • ½ cup water

  • 1 can (4 oz) green chiles (optional)

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Jalapeno Monterey Jack cheese, divided

  • 3–4 small flour or corn tortillas

  • Salt and pepper to taste

For serving:
Sour cream, salsa, guacamole, chopped green onions, or cilantro

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a pie dish or small cast-iron skillet.

  2. Cook the beef. In a skillet, brown ground beef with onion, pepper, and garlic until cooked through.

  3. Season. Add taco seasoning, water, and green chiles. Simmer for about 5 minutes until thickened.

  4. Assemble. Layer a tortilla on the bottom of the baking dish, followed by beef and cheese. Repeat, finishing with cheese on top.

  5. Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes until hot and lightly browned.

  6. Serve. Let it rest for 5 minutes, then slice and serve with sour cream, salsa, and guacamole.

Why It Matters

At Tyner Pond Farm, we talk often about nutrient density — not as a slogan but as a real measure of food quality. For Regenerative Farms like ours, it starts in the soil. Healthy pastures grow nutrient-rich forage, which supports healthy animals and, in turn, more nourishing food for people.

This taco pie is comfort food, but it also shows what local, naturally raised beef can do. It’s affordable, straightforward, and fits the kind of eating that builds long-term health.

FAQs

Q: Can I use corn tortillas instead of flour?
A: Yes. Corn tortillas hold up well during baking and add good texture and flavor.

Q: Is grassfed beef better for you?
A: Grassfed beef from pasture has more omega-3 fats, antioxidants, and minerals than grain-fed beef. It’s a more nutrient-dense and natural choice.

Q: Do you deliver locally?
A: Yes. Tyner Pond Farm offers free home delivery across Central Indiana, including Indianapolis, Greenfield, Fishers, Carmel, and nearby areas.

Q: Can I make this dish ahead of time?
A: You can assemble it earlier in the day and bake it before dinner. It reheats well for lunches the next day.
