We all impact the environment every day…

We all impact the environment every day…

I love this quote from Jane Goodall: “every single person impacts the environment….every day”

As you look at our environment here in Indiana, you might ask what small act can you do to have a positive impact on our shared environment and the environments of others ‘downstream’.

The small act I'm going to suggest is spending $50 a month on local grass fed beef.

Now… you might think that sound self-serving, but hear me out.

We all know fertilizer runoff from upper Midwest Corn and Soybean Farms leads to dead zones in the Gulf of Mexico and effects red tides. We know that exposing bare soil releases carbon into the atmosphere, is easily eroded and reflects the sun’s heat back into the atmosphere. Healthy Ground covered in grass year around solves all of these issues.

We all learned the basics of photosynthesis in third grade: Plants take in carbon dioxide and give off oxygen.

We also know that grasslands always covered with living plants store water, are cooler and act as filters for the watershed.

Farmers need an alternative if any of this is going to change.

Some numbers:

Indiana consumes $8.8 billion a year in meat. Nearly all of this comes from the industrial system and most of it is imported from other states as well as other countries.

There are 7,000,000 people (roughly) in Indiana. If 10% of us (700,000) spent $50 a month on Local Grass-fed Beef, that’s $420,000,000 driving environmental change in our state.

At Tyner Pond Farm, we raise grass fed beef on about 500 acres. Imagine how many acres farmers would rush to convert to grassland and what the benefits to the environment would be if only a tenth of our population committed to $50 a month purchasing Indiana Grass Fed Beef?

We all impact the environment every day. Many of us wonder what we can do. many small acts add up….

Commit $50 a month to support the movement towards Holistic Regenerative Farm practices….you can even donate your grassfed beef to a shelter or food bank…

To make it easy we’ve created a new Ground Beef subscription
